Job Description
Title: Teacher, Choir / General Music (Elementary)
Reports To: Principal
Employee Type: Full-Time, School Year Only, Salaried, Exempt

Summary
To develop students' understanding and appreciation of the art of music, including a wide range of musical genre, periods and styles. Identify, promote and develop each student's talents for musical expression.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers music curriculum consistent with CCS goals and objectives
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning
  • Develops a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Instructs students in developing knowledge and skills in choral music and to learn and practice tone, pitch, rhythm, tempo, and harmony
  • Responsible for inspiring musicianship to motivate elementary students to become and stay involved with instrumental music and prepare them for advanced musical study at the next level
  • Utilizes a repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student musical learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed
  • Assists with the planning, coordination of rehearsals for students in musical programs and performances outside of the classroom
  • Instructs students in proper care and use of instruments used in music classes
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, instrument inventory, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by CCS and applicable laws
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents
  • Enforces the CCS Student Code of Conduct, the CCS Uniform Code, and the CCS Computer Usage Code
  • Promotes good citizenship through actions as a role model
  • Conducts themself according to professional, ethical principles that reflect favorably upon the individual and the school
  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality pertaining to school and students' information, progress, and records
  • Assumes other responsibilities assigned by supervisor and/or school administrator
  • Abides by the CCS Employee Handbook, CCS policies and procedures, and all current PA Public School expectations

Qualifications
  • A four-year college degree and PA Music Education (PK-12) Teacher Certification. If certification is from a different state, PA certification must be obtained within determined a timeframe
  • Demonstrated competence as a classroom teacher
  • Knowledge of current music curriculum and concepts, instructional teaching methods and educational pedagogy
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Experience with learning management systems, Schoology preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft, Google, and basic computer operations
  • Required Clearances include Criminal Background Clearance (Act 34), Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151), and FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114), all dated within one year of receipt
  • Meets criteria for employment in a PA Public School
