Job Description
This teaching position involves teaching students various methods and approaches to learning the concepts and skills associated with art fundamentals, principles of composition, and aesthetic ideas. A combination of teacher-led investigations balanced with student-led choice opportunities allows students to develop new skills that enhance the expression of their voices. The ideal candidate will combine the love and skill for teaching art with an understanding of teaching and supporting students who learn differently.
Responsibilities
- Planning for each activity, ordering supplies, creating models, setting up, and cleaning the space.
- Working with classroom teachers on special projects.
- Creating a warm and supportive environment that fosters confidence, risk-taking, and respect for all
- Facilitate the development of individual student voice
- Providing explicit instruction of thinking and learning strategies within an inquiry-based model
- Engaging students in the creative process while building a classroom culture in which students understand and feel excited about art, design, and art history.
- Assessing students' strengths and growth opportunities and scaffolding instruction accordingly
- Establishing routines, maintaining consistent expectations, and employing effective management techniques
- Providing clear communication with students, staff members, and parents in a positive, professional manner
- Pursuing professional growth and development through attendance at professional development opportunities provided by the School
- Producing an annual Art Show of student work
- Maintaining an organized and efficient student workspace
- Collaborating with other faculty members on arts integration projects
Qualifications
- Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, and mentoring students
- A role model for students
- Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts or Art Education is required
- Pennsylvania public school certification or Private Academic School certification in Art Education is required
- Experience teaching elementary and middle school art and art history
- Ability to work well with a team
- Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Interest in art education and in teaching neurodivergent students
