Position Overview

An employee in this class plans and directs the County library services designed to meet the variety of community needs and interests. Work includes long and short-range planning including facilities and technology expansion, establishment of goals, identification and development of funding sources, fiscal planning and administration, staff development, collections and branch development, management and administration of the daily operations, marketing and community relations activities, and establishing policies, procedures, and work standards. Specialized professional knowledge, independent judgment and initiative are required, as well as tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the County Manager and is evaluated through meetings, analysis of program accomplishments, and public feedback.

Qualifications

Possession of a Master's degree in library science from an accredited ALA library school and considerable professional experience in library administration with considerable supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

Eligible for certification by the N.C. Public Librarian Certification Board. Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
