Job Description
America’s Test Kitchen is seeking a Managing Editor to lead and oversee the integration of content and production workflows and calendars across our digital properties. The Managing Editor is a systems thinker with a deep understanding of editorial and creative workflows and tools, and experience designing editorial systems and processes from the ground up. Reporting to the VP of Editorial Strategy, the Managing Editor is a dynamic leader and a strong communicator who works closely with and influences Editorial Directors on various teams; they are also an unwavering keeper of deadlines and budgets, with an obsessive attention to detail and razor-sharp copy editing skills. The Managing Editor acts as an editorial point person for stakeholders in marketing, product, and design, keeping at all times a 10,000-foot view of editorial projects and initiatives, and quickly assessing team bandwidth and availability.
Your Day-to-Day:
- Analyze current workflows and tools used to track projects across newsletters, ATK Classes, ATK Reviews, Web editorial, homepage, marketing, and social channels.
- Research and recommend tools and software for tracking editorial projects across all digital platforms; make recommendations to executive management.
- Create and manage a single editorial calendar for all digital teams, and eventually all ATK editorial teams.
- Actively manage content and production calendars for multiple editorial teams, overseeing deadlines and key milestones.
- Act as point person for marketing, design, and product on upcoming campaigns and deadlines.
- Partner with the VP of Editorial Strategy to integrate and synchronize priorities across editorial departments; identify opportunities for collaboration across teams.
- Liaise with Editorial Directors and editors on all digital teams; meet regularly with the VP of Editorial Strategy to ensure all teams are aligned.
- Act as a last line of defense for editorial work, flagging typos, factual errors, bad breaks, bad crops, and other unsightly issues on an ongoing basis.
What You Bring to the Team:
- At least 10 years of experience in a Managing Editor or Project Management role at a publication or media company.
- Deep knowledge of editorial workflows and processes.
- Demonstrated ability to design editorial systems from the ground up.
- A point of view on editorial tools and project-management software; experience with multiple platforms a plus.
- Strong communication skills and an obsessive attention to detail.
- Strong copy editing skills and experience with developing and maintaining style guides.
- A passion for and understanding of food and cooking.
- General knowledge of product, engineering, and design workflows and processes.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
This position is located in our Boston, MA office in the Seaport district. It is the expectation that the person in this role will work a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday) in the office and 2 days per week remotely.
