General Statement of Job

Seasonal Production/Position

The Vienna Youth Players (VYP) Light Designer would collaborate with the creative team, especially the Director and Assistant Director, to create and implement the lighting design for the show each summer. The light designer is responsible for setting up and focusing the light fixtures, recording light cues and creating a correlating light cue sheet, and returning the light fixtures to the plot given by the Vienna Community Center post-production. If no student is available to run the light board during the show, the light designer will be running that as well. In addition, the lighting designer will teach a crew of students the procedures of light design and implementation. The light designer will be trained on safe and efficient use of Town equipment (such as the lift and scaffolding) and will be responsible for ensuring safe and proper use of the equipment by VYP staff. Lastly, the light designer will record cues and create a light cue sheet for general lighting that the Vienna Community Center may need for other events during June and July in collaboration with the Recreation Program Coordinator II, Events.

The lighting designer works under the supervision of the Director of Vienna Youth Players.

Work Hours: The Lighting Designer will work with the Director, Assistant Director, and their light crew to schedule enough time to complete the lighting within the desired time frame and within the limitations of space reservation. The light fixtures must be returned to the standard plot provided by the VCC on the day of strike, which will either be on the last day of the show or the day after.
