Utah Shakespeare Festival is hiring: Assistant Charge Artist in Cedar City

Job Description:

The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theater company in residence at Southern Utah University, is accepting applications for Production Staff for the 2025 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival produces a six-show repertory season and three Green Shows across three venues in the summer/fall of each year. Position details below.

Assistant Charge Artist

Work begins April 22nd through the end of June 2024.

Pay: $18/hr, shared housing with private room provided, time and a half for any overtime worked.

Responsibilities and Experience Requirements:

1. Assists charge artist with overseeing assigned scenic artists, scenic application of texture, three-dimensional sculpting, and scenery painting for assigned productions.
2. Coordinates with Scenic Charge on scheduling, techniques used, purchasing of supplies and equipment.
3. Intermediate and advanced experience with scenic painting and finishing or related fields. Experience with foam carving highly encouraged.
4. Must be comfortable using ladders, scaffolding, and personnel lifts. Basic knowledge of typical scenery and paint specific tools.
5. Experience leading crews of scenic artists. Confident in developing paint and finishing techniques for theatrical scenery.
