Coordinates and facilitates all aspects of audio and video recording, streaming, and sound reinforcement for Dana School of Music, Department of Visual and Dramatic Arts, University Theatre, and the McDonough Museum of Art events; archives audio and video recordings of performances, productions, etc; assists with audio-visual needs for University Theatre productions; creates and curates content for producing video/audio recording for promotional purposes; coordinates live audio/video recordings for select University Theatre and Dana School of Music performances. Provides engineering support for Cliffe College sound facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Assembles and produces content for a variety of media, including audio and video, including for YouTube and social media platforms.
  2. Ensures artistic and technical quality of productions.
  3. Attends select music and theatre rehearsals and production meetings, including both on and off campus.
  4. Manages in-house production of audio/video and multimedia content from ideation to final delivery.
  5. Works in close collaboration with Cliffe College social media staff.
  6. Oversees digital studio housekeeping operations and infrastructures, including digital audio file transfer conventions, compression schemes, hard-disk recording technologies, and digital archiving procedures.
  7. Maintains authoritative, constantly upgraded knowledge of industry standards and production techniques and skills with an emphasis upon balancing practicality with capturing and maintaining the highest audio/video quality throughout all aspects of the production chain.
  8. Maintains a high level of knowledge and skills regarding contemporary production equipment and technology selection and techniques as well as in all aspects of operation.
  9. Operates, tests, schedules, troubleshoots, and installs a variety of technical audio/video recording and production equipment including both hardware and software.
  10. Mentors and supervises recording arts majors and student audio/video assistants in a variety of tasks.
  11. Schedules students for curricular, performance, and production needs.
  12. Facilitates a safe production environment and models professional practices.
  13. Participates in special projects as assigned.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with training new hires.
  2. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.

Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment; audio & video recording equipment; stage and production lights; cinema camera; audio/video editing software.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday; must be available to work occasional nights and weekends.

Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over student employees.

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1.   2. Skill in: Use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division; attention to detail; organization and management.

Ability to: Collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; plan and establish priorities; handle multiple tasks and projects; work with tight deadlines; demonstrate flexibility in daily work activities; determine material and equipment needs; compile and prepare reports; use proper research methods to gather data; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; maintain records according to established procedures; effectively interact with personnel and public to answer routine questions; train or instruct others; move quickly and effectively from one task to another; work independently and in a team environment; develop and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor’s degree in art, music, theatre, communications, or a related field; six or more months of experience in the field of audio and/or video production; experience producing creative projects that demonstrate skills in audio/video editing; experience using basic lighting equipment; experience with 3D composition and effects, creating video content using software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, and DaVinci and knowledge of multiple formats.

Preferred Qualifications: One or more years of related experience.
