Job Description:
The Department of Communication at the University at Albany is recruiting a pool of applicants for adjunct instructor positions. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. The Department is a vibrant academic community of 15 full-time faculty members and approximately 330 majors. Successful candidates will contribute to our undergraduate curriculum, in-person and online, in the areas of public speaking and strategic communication. Sample class topics include advertising, brand communication, corporate communication, crisis communication, digital content strategy, leadership communication, marketing communication, public relations, public speaking, and communication ethics. Adjunct instructors develop and deliver relevant course material, facilitate engaging learning, assess student work, provide constructive feedback, and stay updated on industry trends. Course assignments are typically made several months prior to the semester commencing.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master's degree, at minimum, in communication or related fields (e.g., advertising, journalism, public relations) from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization by the start of the semester. Candidates who will not hold the degree by this date will not be considered.
  • Previous college-level teaching experience, especially in an online environment.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community.
  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional or industry experience in the subject area of expertise.
