Position Summary Information:

Primary Purpose: The Academic Support Librarian for Health Sciences develops curated collections, provides research expertise, and delivers educational services for the School of Health Sciences, the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, and additional programs as needed on three campuses (Sacramento, San Francisco, and Stockton).

The Academic Support Librarian contributes to learning-centered academic support programs, projects, and services that advance 21st-century information access and discovery while fostering scholarly communications, research management, and digital opportunities. This role is committed to addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) within the library.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and deliver a high-impact educational program that strategically targets evidence-based research-intensive courses and scaffolds learning outcomes, in collaboration with health sciences faculty.
  • Provide research consultation and class instructional services, in-person and online, for assigned subject areas.
  • Curate health sciences collections utilizing owned, licensed, and open-source resources, and foster resource discoverability, visibility, and usage.
  • Collaborate with fellow Academic Support Librarians and student-centered academic partners to support student success and retention through research consultations, library instruction, and other information literacy services and programs.
  • Partner with instructional designers to integrate library resources into education.
  • Support digital scholarship and open access initiatives by providing guidance on data management and emerging trends.
  • Contribute to campus information literacy goals and assessment.
  • Participate in local, regional, national, or international organizations that advance library and information science in health fields.
  • Serve on University and department committees and facilitate collaborative research projects.
  • Support and educate faculty, staff, and students with federally funded research.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science, natural or health sciences (Two (2) years of full-time experience in the same/similar position is equal to one (1) year of completed post-high school education coursework).
  • Two (2) years of experience providing information services in an academic library setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in teaching and learning activities, including understanding of best practices.
  • Passion for quality library services centered around student learning.
  • Experience with collection curation and resource-sharing services.
  • Knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) and ability to support faculty with OER initiatives.
  • Facility with utilizing technology to transform research and learning experiences.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Committed to advancing diversity, equity inclusion, and accessibility.
  • Understanding of data privacy concerns, particularly in health science fields.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Some evening and weekend work is required. The position is approximately 10% travel between university campus locations but will be based on the Sacramento Campus. Valid driver’s license required.

Hiring Range: $66,560.00 - $83,799.30 per year. We consider factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations when extending an offer.
