This position primarily works at the Gere Branch Library (2400 S 56th Street, Lincoln, NE 68506) and the South Branch Library (2675 South Street, Lincoln, NE 68502). Hours: Full time; 40 hours per week as scheduled; will include day, evening and weekend hours. This position is deemed exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and may occasionally require work more than 40 hours in a work week though every effort is made to minimize those situations. This position is eligible for benefits.
The Librarian is responsible for creating a comfortable and positive atmosphere for library customers and staff, acting as a resource person, providing outreach to the service area, and planning programs. They also conduct occasional staff training. The Librarian also acts as the primary supervisor on duty on a rotating basis, which includes supervision of public service staff, handling enforcement and explanation of rules, and providing coaching to staff.
Scheduled work hours will be assigned and could be during any of the following times: 8:00am to 8:15pm Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 6:15pm Friday and Saturday, and 11:00am to 6:15pm Sunday. While schedules will vary, this position will be required to work evenings and weekends. Evenings and weekends are assigned quarterly, but it is not unusual to work two evenings a week and two weekends a month. While all positions are assigned to a primary branch or service unit, staff may be assigned to work at any branch location. Hours may be assigned at multiple branches in a single work day.
Qualifications: Master's degree in an ALA accredited library science program, and at least 2 years of experience in a library or customer service setting, or equivalent.
