If you have experience working with children ages 0-8 years and their families and want to share the joy of reading with our diverse Lincoln community, then this is the job for you.
This position will be headquartered at the Bennett Martin Public Library (136 South 14th Street, 68508). Hours: Part time: 20 hours per week as scheduled and will include daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Assigned hours will usually be between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday-Sunday. This position is not eligible for insurance benefits.
This position is predominately about building and maintaining community connections and partnerships to promote the practice of reading aloud to children. The work includes raising public awareness about the importance of reading aloud by speaking with, and listening to, service groups and clubs, parent groups, educators, and policy makers. Participate in community events outside of the library to promote reading aloud. Initiate new partnerships to increase the practice of reading aloud in the community and in families. Serve on community groups related to early childhood development as a proponent of early childhood literacy. Promote the read aloud message through Lincoln City Libraries’ Public Information Specialist. Oversee ordering, donations, inventory and distribution of books to families.
Qualifications: Master's degree in an ALA accredited library science program, and at least 2 years experience in a library or customer service setting, or equivalent.
