The Washington County Law Library is recruiting for variable hour Library Assistant positions to join our small, but effective team. The role will help aid in the law library's mission to provide legal reference services and expand access to justice within our community.

A variable hour Library Assistant provides excellent internal and external customer service by providing basic legal reference assistance to a diverse community. This position maintains the welcoming environment of the Law Library with creative displays and ensures new materials are processed and available in a timely manner. The variable hour Library Assistant collects and compiles statistics and provides basic business administration tasks, such as bill payments under the direction of the Law Librarian. This position is a member of a small team and will require flexibility to provide coverage, occasionally working alone, and staffing outreach events outside normal business hours.

The ideal candidate is comfortable providing quality customer service to all individuals regardless of legal background. They will be a self-starter who is able to work independently. They are knowledgeable of legal databases and resources and can help others use them. They will seek opportunities to improve processes and be well-organized. They will also possess previous library experience, preferably within a law library.

Variable Hour positions are at-will and hours are limited to an average of 20 hours per week. These positions are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.

Education and Experience:

  1. One (1) year of experience performing administrative or library support work; six (6) months of the experience must have been in a library.

Steps of the process:
  1. MQ Review: Human Resources will screen applications for MQs starting the week following the job posting close. Additional preferred qualifications screening may be applied prior to the interview step depending on the number of applications received.
  2. Subject Matter Expert Review: Your responses to the supplemental questions will be evaluated and scored by a panel of subject matter experts. Your total score for this examination will affect your placement on the eligible list (a list of candidates eligible for interviews).
  3. Panel Interview(s): Generally, the top six to eight candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview.
  4. Conditional Offer: A successful candidate will be made an offer contingent on a reference check.
