Mary and John Gray Library is looking for students to work Spring 2025

PLEASE READ:
The library will look to hire Student Assistants and Work Study.
We will look very hard at your availability.

The Library opens late at night and early morning. Also, we are open on Saturday and Sunday. All students will be required to work some weekends and some late nights as their schedule permits.

You will need to be a full-time registered student to work Fall semester of 2024.

For Spring 2025, we will only hire from this posting. We plan to hire Work Study and Student Assistants for the Library. The work will include: project work like moving books, heavy lifting, moving carts, replacing books, scanning photos, entering data on spreadsheets, covering the front desk, and answering patron questions.

Job Duties:
• Good customer service skills
• Ability to help Lamar students with their library needs
• Microsoft Office experience with a focus on Excel and Word
• Use of copy machines, fax machines, printers, computers, scanners, and cash registers
• Daily shelving of library books
• Straightening the books in the library
• Opening and closing library per the student’s availability
• Performance of other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Library is open late nights and weekends. Before you apply, please understand all student workers will be working some nights and some Saturdays and Sundays as your schedule permits.
Other Qualifications:
• Ability to use a cash register and handle cash
• Ability to learn the library software “Workflows”
• Experience with Microsoft Office with a focus on Excel.
• Ability to help students use BlackBoard.

Physical Requirements:
• Some heavy lifting is required
• Moving books on a cart
• Moving tables and chairs
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Work Hours:
Starting at an average of 10 hours a week, can earn more as experience grows.

Additional Instructions for Applicants:
• There are 2 types of student positions on campus. All Students need to be a full-time student:

  • Work Study Student: Student that qualified for work-study funding.
  • Student Assistant: Any undergrad or graduate student with full-time hours.
