Job Description:

1. Promote the mission of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools
2. Model in word and action the teachings of the Catholic Church
3. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
4. Develop schemes of work and lesson plans that adhere to system curriculum maps
5. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
6. Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
7. Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
8. Use relevant technology to support instruction
9. Keep updated with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
10. Observe, monitor and evaluate student’s progress and performance
11. Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, assignments and enter grades online
12. Provide appropriate and timely feedback on work
13. Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
14. Provide student supervision and discipline
15. Uphold professionalism and confidentiality
16. Conduct rehearsals and performances demonstrating understanding of differences in style among various types of music
17. Provide music ministry at Mass, as assigned by school
18. Work to produce performances of high musical quality for the school and community in which groups are well-disciplined and make a good appearance
19. Christmas Concert and/or Spring Concert as assigned by school
20. Provide opportunities to participate in school, local and regional competitions, contests and events
21. Direct the liturgical choir, including rehearsals and performances, as assigned by school
22. Selects and places purchase orders for required music, instruments, equipment, and supplies
23. Member of the South Dakota Music Education Association (SDMEA)

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor degree or higher in K-12 music education from an accredited institution
2. State certification with K-12 vocal music authorization
3. Exhibit the core values of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools: Faith, Unity, Excellence, and Integrity
4. Piano proficiency and/or other instruments preferred
5. General understanding of Catholic liturgy of the Mass
6. Knowledge of relevant technology
7. Excellent verbal and written communication
8. Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
9. Self-motivated with high energy
