Music Teacher 25/26 Job at Woodland Star Charter School in Glen Ellen

Woodland Star Charter School is a Waldorf inspired Tk - 8 public school located in the beautiful rural setting of Glen Ellen, just a few miles outside of Sonoma. The school has a 13-acre parcel featuring a garden, outdoor kitchen, playing field, playground, outdoor stage, and potential for further outdoor expansion. We have a science room, library, handwork room, music room, and middle school art room in addition to our kindergarten and grades classrooms.

We are a community of learners with a dedicated faculty that studies together.

The WSCS Music Teacher works out of the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education to instruct students in developing musicality. The Music Teacher teaches separate classes in third through 8th grade and supports the entire student body at assemblies and festivals. The school currently teaches recorder, ukulele, drumming, and marimba, and we would welcome choral singing as well.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teaches music and music notation to grades 3-8.
2. Supports all students in alignment with our Multi-tiered System of Support.
3. Sets learning goals and maintains records of student achievement.
4. Attends meetings, trainings, and school events.
5. Participates in assigned recess supervision.
6. Performs related duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge of current best educational practices and a willingness to incorporate principles into teaching and lesson planning.
2. Classroom management and motivational strategies.
3. Effective communication skills and the ability to work with neuro-diverse students.
4. Ability to keep records, track student progress, and provide written updates for parent conferences and report cards.

Education and Experience

A BA or BS and valid CA music teaching credential, along with a willingness to learn and implement Waldorf methods.

Job Salary

Salary is based on $50,000-$80,000 FTE.
