Job Title: Middle and Upper School Instrumental Music Teacher
Reports to: Director of Fine Arts
Classification: Exempt
Status: Full-Time
Date: August 2024

Job Summary: The Emery/Weiner School seeks a dynamic, innovative, and collegial Instrumental Music Teacher to join our collaborative faculty. Responsibilities include teaching curricular instrumental music, supporting/supervising Fine Arts initiatives, and accompanying various campus events. The position will also participate in advisory, student life, and chaperoning duties according to the experience of the candidate and needs of the school. A strong candidate will be an experienced arts professional with a background in music, teaching and/or working with young people, and a desire to teach in a progressive, student-centered independent school that values innovative pedagogy and experiential education. An outstanding candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of innovation, flexibility, collegiality, and student success.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Teaching 6 sections of Middle and Upper School curricular instrumental music classes for grades 6-12
  2. Participate in supporting music for concerts, musicals, and special events on campus
  3. Perform duties required of all full-time faculty, including serving as an advisor, trip chaperone, student life, etc.
  4. Support the School, its mission, and its leadership

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Music Theatre, Music, Music Education, or related field.
  2. Experience teaching in a variety of different musical styles; professional music experience preferred.
  3. Ability to teach students with a variety of different experience levels (from the most novice to the most experienced)
  4. Collegial and committed to collaborating with Fine Arts faculty
  5. A commitment to high ethical professional standards
  6. An energetic, engaging, and even-tempered demeanor
  7. Committed to and passionate about teaching students across the entire range of grades (6-12), with a student-focused approach and attitude.
  8. Flexibility and willingness to adapt within the Fine Arts program according to departmental needs and growth.
