Description The Minnesota State Fair is in search of a superintendent to oversee the competitions and operations of the creative activities department and support the creative activities divisions with staffing, display coordination, exhibitor interactions and more. This position's primary responsibilities focus on functions leading up to and following the State Fair. It's perfect for someone who has a passion for engaging with exhibitors, makers, fair guests and the public. (The creative activities department includes canned and preserved foods, baked products, needlecrafts, handcrafts and others.) This is an on-site position. Remote work or hybrid work is not available. Essential Functions: Serve as liaison between the Minnesota State Fair competition department and creative activities staff and exhibitors, including facilitating communication, coordinating logistics, problem-solving, implementing program improvements and providing administrative support. Hire and manage a large and varied staff and competition judges, including interviewing candidates, delegating responsibilities and creating staff schedule Oversee process for intake, display and return of exhibit entries. Work closely with the Creative Activities building superintendent to ensure a smooth transition from pre-fair set up to fair-time to post-fair operations. Manage exhibitor relations by addressing questions, issues and feedback regarding creative activities competition, as well as exploring ways to improve the program and promote the competition. Maintain electronic timecards for self and staff. Communicate with other fair departments to resolve building and exhibit area maintenance and repair issues. Provide a detailed summary report of the current year's fair with suggestions for programming and improvements to competition operation and execution. Coordinate with human resources department to resolve employment-related issues as needed. Assist with tasks as assigned by either the immediate supervisor or other full time members of the Competition Department. Requirements Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to direct and manage staff and work well with groups Previous customer service related experience Problem-solving skills and attention to detail Available to work early August - mid September with limited days off. Extended hours during peak times and consecutive days without time off are required Aug. 7-21, Sept. 1-4. Schedule may vary during the fair, Aug. 21- Sept. 1 Must be at least 18 years of age.
