The
Associate Director Business Unit Communications and Public Affairs Dermatology
is responsible for leading strategy and execution of external communications programs that advance the business priorities of AbbVies U.S. Dermatology portfolio. The Associate Director serves as a key partner to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders across midtohigh levels of management. Reporting to the Director of Business Unit Communications and Public Affairs for Immunology this role closely collaborates with functions across the organization including Corporate Communications Pipeline and External Innovation Communications and International Public Affairs colleagues to identify and maximize opportunities to tell AbbVies innovation and growth story. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops strategic highimpact public affairs programs to advance business objectives with emphasis on competitive differentiation analytics and the external environment Secures timely buyin and input from functional and franchise leaders on Public Affairs programs including securing budget to effectively execute programs Oversees and implements tactical program elements ensuring deliverables are met on time and on budget across paid earned shared and owned channels Serves as communications counselor to franchise leadership ensuring programs are creatively developed and executed with the external environment in mind Leads data communications at U.S. medical congresses to differentiate AbbVies onmarket dermatology brands and to elevate the pipeline among key external stakeholders Represents Business Unit Communications and Public Affairs on Integrated Brand Teams and proactively contributes on business decisions with crossfunctional business partners Partners with patient and professional advocacy organizations to advance the understanding of dermatological conditions Demonstrates strong understanding of U.S. media environment (consumer business and industry) and has advanced media relations experience to ensure effective engagement with reporters Serve as spokesperson for designated U.S. dermatology brands Manages issues that affect the business overall by proactively anticipating and mitigating risk to AbbVie Drives agency partner performance and seamless execution while ensuring effective use of AbbVie resources Ensures compliance by managing review process for external communications materials (press releases statements response documents fact sheets etc.) Consistently shares best practices and offers new ideas and thinking to raise the bar for the Global Therapeutics Communications and Public Affairs organization Significant Work Activities: Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hr day) is required
Qualifications : A minimum of a bachelors degree is required emphasis in communications public relations journalism or equivalent. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience and proven track record of success in developing and executing corporate and/or product communications and/or public relations including media relations and social media/digital work. Experience in the healthcare/biopharma industry preferred but not required. Strong business acumen with the ability to anticipate company and team needs including strong understanding of US healthcare system functioning and intricacies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with knowledge of emerging communications trends and technologies Demonstrates ability to operate in a matrix environment and serve as the functional representative on multiple teams Manage difficult conversations through direct and constructive dialogue Learns fast grasps the essence and can change course quickly where indicated; raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo; creates a learning environment open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement Able to make decisions with lessthanperfect information and enjoys complex challenges but flexible and prioritizes what is important

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
