What we're looking for: A motivated and collaborative individual to join the Library department. You will continue to successfully serve the current and future needs of the New Braunfels community. Under general supervision, performs a variety of professional librarian functions in support of New Braunfels Public Library operations; provides reference and reader's advisory services to patrons; instructs the public in the use of library computers and equipment; coordinates and delivers library programming; and performs other specialized duties relative to area of assignment. Must be able to work weekdays, weeknights, or weekends on any assigned shift; work may be scheduled based on library needs. This position has the ability to advance to a Librarian II based on ability to meet the senior level qualifications of that position. .

- Assists in ensuring the delivery of high-quality library programs and services to the community.
- Provides customer assistance and reference and reader's advisory services to library patrons; utilizes a variety of resources to respond to patron inquiries, and locate library materials.
- Responds to patron concerns, complaints, and requests for information.
- Assists patrons with technology on demand and in classroom settings.
- Plans, develops, promotes, and delivers library programming to the community.
- Supervises specialists as assigned.
- Represents the library in meetings with the public, citizen groups and other agencies.
- Contributes to budget development and monitors expenditures for an assigned area.
- Provides training and supervises the work activities of assigned library personnel and volunteers as required; assists with staff schedules as needed; supervises and trains volunteers as assigned.
- Participates in compiling statistical data.
- Serves as a mentor and takes a leadership role in staff meetings. Leads small groups to complete and report on assignments.
- Stays abreast of developments and best-practices in the library field.
- Participates in maintaining and updating the Library's website, online calendar, and electronic resources.
- Plans, develops, promotes and delivers programming and outreach services to promote library services and collections.
- Assists in identifying and applying for grants as part of a committee.
- Develops partnerships and promotes community relationships in order to provide programming to the library customers.
- Acts as Librarian on Duty and staffs service desk as assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned.
LIBRARIAN II PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Team supervisor within branch
- Supervises and trains staff and completes staff schedules
- Identify and deliver training to staff
- Prepares and delivers summary or statistical reports to support groups and stakeholders as needed
- Performs functions of direct supervisor in their absence
- Monitors assigned area of budget and makes recommendations to direct supervisor on expenditures
- Supervises Librarian I and specialist positions as assigned
- May be required to complete all or some duties listed for Librarian I
Education, Experience, Licenses and Certifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:
- Master's Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution, or currently enrolled in one of these master's degree programs.
Preferred Experience:
- Programming experience in a public library
- Customer service experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to adapt to emerging technologies as needed.
- Bilingual (Spanish, ASL, or German) preferred
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver's License.

Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a library environment and is subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of objects up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to push loaded book carts and lift or carry library materials and equipment.
- Must be able to work weekdays, weeknights, or weekends on any assigned shift; work may be scheduled based on library needs. Hours of work per week may vary depending on assigned duties; may work over 40 hours per week depending on assignment. May be required to work immediately before, during or immediately after an emergency or disaster.
