Job Summary
Coordinates, monitors and produces promotional materials related to the promotion of Parks and Recreation programs, facilities and services. Serves as the chief spokesperson and community relations contact for the department in communicating to the public and media regarding Parks and Recreation activities and events. Manages perpetual development, implementation and evaluation of the overall department marketing plan and promotional strategies.
Essential Functions
1. Creates robust, interactive communication that engages the community.
2. Coordinates and produces publications, newsletters, reports, social media posts and other documents directly.
3. Advises staff on digital content including website and social media networks to be more effective as an information tool.
4. Communicates within the department and City including newsletters, annual reports, and other publications.
5. Plans, develops and implements marketing strategies including marketing/advertising plans; identifies target markets.
6. Develops and implements promotional campaigns for parks and recreation facilities, programs and events resulting in increased exposure, participation, household penetration rates and revenue.
7. Coordinates and produces publications, advertisements and other documents directly related to promoting Parks and Recreation activities to increase general awareness.
8. Advises staff on using the website more effectively as a marketing/informational tool.
9. Works with consultants, contractors and other media service providers per direction/approval of the department Director when developing and updating the department website and Amilia/SmartRec (in person and online registration software).
10. Coordinates monitoring of posts, questions, feedback and general presence across all social media and other digital platforms.
11. Keeps all digital communication current, including websites and social media.
12. Ensures a unified message is conveyed from the department to the public.
13. Ensures brand consistency and proper use.
14. Prepares, submits and monitors the department's marketing budget and measure the return on investment of marketing expenditures ensuring that marketing dollars are spent effectively.
15. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
16. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
17. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

•Ability to provide excellent customer services including a desire to help customers regardless of their circumstance.
•Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
•Must have the ability to learn additional applications as they are applied to working assignments.
•Ability to maintain cooperative-working relationships with employees and those contacted in the course of work.
•Ability to handle customer complaints in person or over the phone in a professional and respectful manner.

•Ability to work with staff and contractors to effectively produce collateral material including activities guide, brochures, membership information, and posters.
•Must have an understanding and application of budgeting principles.
•Must have the ability to interview, train and evaluate staff and to be creative in motivating employees and giving positive direction.
•Must have the ability to deal with others in a tactful, clear and concise manner.
•Must have knowledge of marketing and public relations techniques and principles.
•Must have the ability to interpret marketing and survey data and make recommendations.
•Must have the ability to work under general direction and minimum supervision with significant latitude given in making decisions regarding the department's marketing efforts.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Business or related field with an emphasis in marketing plus four years of equivalent experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Experience in the public sector preferred.
Must be familiar with graphic and publishing software such as the Adobe Creative Suite or similar as well as social media tools, schedulers and analytics; familiar with Word Press or similar. Ability to function on both desktop and mobile devices.
Must have the flexibility to work weekends, extended and irregular hours.
Must pass a credit check and a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
