About the Role Culmen International, LLC is seeking a Technical Writer to support the Educational and Clinical Research Program for the Defense Health Agency Vision Center of Excellence (VCE) onsite in Bethesda, Maryland. The VCE is a leader in discovering evidence-based information that forms the basis for ocular injury-related education, guidance, clinical recommendations, and policy. Its recommendations and products must be solidly grounded in current scientific evidence and sound research. Clinical research and studies form the underpinnings of the aforementioned evidence-based products. VCE studies and analysis projects include a breadth of clinical areas including pre-hospital and pre-ophthalmic zone of care of vision, ocular injury, ocular trauma, nursing, and blind and low vision rehabilitation.
What You’ll Do in Your New Role Attend meetings and draft meeting summaries
Conduct literature research and prepare reports and presentations summarizing research findings for technical and non-technical audiences
Create/edit scripts for video tutorials
Update, edit, and proofread written materials such as product manuals, how-to guides, and FAQs
Engage with key stakeholders, including government staff, advocacy groups, and the public to gather information that supports tasks/projects
Work with clinicians, scientists, and researchers to draft or edit grant proposals and manuscripts
Work efficiently and collaboratively with other team members to ensure research projects are completed on time
Required Qualifications US Citizen
Pass a Tier 1 background check
Ability to obtain a public trust
Bachelors in English or science
3+ years of technical writing experience in science or health-related fields
Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects simultaneously, on time, and with limited oversight
Meticulous attention to detail
Experience with 508 compliance, plain language, and Flesch Reading Ease Score
Proficiency with MS Office applications, SharePoint, search engines, and citation management software
Experience working collaboratively and cross-functionally with stakeholders on projects
Must be a self-starter and proactive in performing duties and responsibilities
Ability to work on-site at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda four to five days a week

The determination of compensation at Culmen International, LLC is based on various factors such as location, the individual's unique combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, clearance level, experience, internal equity, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $48,640 - $60,800 annually. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Culmen's total compensation package for employees.
