Library Innovation & Communications Specialist

The Concord Free Public Library isseeking a creative, detail-oriented Innovation and Communications Specialist tocoordinate the Library's marketing efforts and social media outreach! This is a15-hour/week position that does not include routinely scheduled desk shifts.The successful candidate will have the option to join the Library's substitutelist for possible additional hours if desired.

It is hometo the nationally recognized William Munroe Special Collections and offers adynamic range of services for residents of all ages, including the ReadingDragons Summer Reading program and a newly established community makerspace TheWorkshop.

This position will be responsiblefor planning, implementing, and managing marketing campaigns across theLibrary's outlets, including our website, digital signage, newsletter, socialmedia, and print products. The ideal candidate will enjoy not only creativedesign work but also creating systems and guides that equip all our staff torequest and create advertising for a diverse range of programs and serviceswhile maintaining a consistent organizational voice and identity.

Pay rate $26.43-$31.28/hour. Work Schedule: 15 hours weekly, flexibleshift options

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Library Director, performs professional and responsible work that includes conceptualizing, developing, and implementing media and campaigns; marketing programs and resources; and special projects to promote the Concord Free Public Library's services and reflect positively on departmental operations. Assists with the input and editing of designated pages of the Library's website. In collaboration with other staff members prepares and delivers technology related trainings for both community members and colleagues. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control; performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of Town operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures; and is called upon to handle a significant amount of details, each varying from the other in substance and content, requiring incumbent to approach workload with flexibility.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

•Creates communication plans (and strategies as needed) for big events or programs at the Library, including annual programs such as National Library Week and the Summer Reading Program, as well as one-time launches of new services.

•Assists the Library Director in responding to media inquiries. Writes press releases for Library programs and/or events. Ensures that all library outreach and information is presented in a consistent and professional manner.

•Manages all Library social media channels, including the creation of content, management of content submissions from other departments, writing copy for posts, scheduling all content for daily posting, and engaging with the community as appropriate.

•Follows communications guidelines, policies, and best practices as outlined by the Town of Concord and the Concord Free Public Library.

•Collects metrics from a variety of sources including Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Twitter Analytics, and circulation and database usage to create monthly and quarterly metrics reports, including analysis.

•Creates a variety of print promotions, including monthly program calendars, booklists, technology lists, and other collateral using tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Publisher.

•Compiles information in coordination with library departments. Assists in the development, editing, and distribution of employee reports, newsletters, annual reports and other projects, as assigned.

•Attends various meetings, events, celebrations etc. to gather, communicate and promote relevant information. Takes photographs and/or video in order to enhance publications.

•Archives Library's promotional efforts.

•Serves as a resource to the Library's webmaster by assisting in the input and editing of designated pages.

•Trains staff and patrons on new technologies, A/V equipment, web-based technologies, and digital resources provided to patrons such as OverDrive/Libby and Hoopla.

•Collaborates with staff and volunteers in managing Open Labs or equivalent training program.

•Offers specialized classes that incorporate technical skills and creative technology tools.

•Makes suggestions about how the Library can improve its technological capabilities and new technologies to acquire by collaborating with staff, community members, and outside consultants.

•Performs special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.

•Performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation dictates.

•Regular attendance at the workplace is required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

•Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, computer science, or a related field plus at least two years of experience directly managing social media channels for a business or non-profit, two years of experience creating digital content for a business or non-profit, and one year experience with website administration; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

•Preferred experience: work in a library environment; library services such as Libby and Hoopla; Sierra Integrated Library System (ILS); and/or Object Oriented Programming (OOP).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, & ABILITIES:

•Ability to communicate effectively both verbally, in writing, graphically, and via the Library's social media channels. Strong interpersonal skill with a high level of social perceptiveness; ability to serve all members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers.

•Mastery of grammar; excellent writing skills.

•Understanding, familiarity, and skill regarding social media management and content creation.

•Extensive PC, Mac, and software knowledge including all Microsoft Office applications (including MS Publisher), Adobe Creative Cloud, and Apple creative tools. Strong technical understanding of file formats.

•Strong technical understanding of translating digital images to print format.

•Competency in training others on using and troubleshooting A/V equipment.

•Ability to work independently and handle assignments with a high degree of flexibility.

•Ability to use discretion when information requires confidentiality and edit information.

•Excellent customer service skills.

•Strong time management and organizational skills; attention to detail; ability to multi-task, self-motivate, and regularly reassess priorities. Ability to manage pressure and work under stress.

•Ability to work independently and handle assignments with a high degree of flexibility.

•Commitment to learning and proactively seeking professional development opportunities in order to keep skills current, especially in the area of emerging technologies.
