1 VP, Inside Legal Counsel – Telecommunications The Inside Legal Counsel will provide legal support to the organization on a wide range of matters related to the telecommunications industry. This role involves working closely with senior leadership, business units, Human Resources, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance, mitigate risks, and support strategic initiatives. Provide legal counsel on a variety of telecommunications-related matters, including compliance with regulatory requirements, licensing, telecommunications agreements, and data privacy laws. Advise senior management on emerging legal issues, business decisions, and risk management strategies. Stay informed of changes in telecommunications laws and regulations at local, national, and international levels and provide proactive legal solutions to the company.
Contract Negotiation & Drafting:
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to telecommunications services, vendor agreements, interconnection agreements, and service-level agreements (SLAs). Assist with the negotiation of partnerships, joint ventures, and other business transactions within the telecom sector. Ensure that contracts are compliant with industry standards and corporate policies.
Regulatory Compliance:
Monitor and ensure compliance with telecommunications laws and regulations, including Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations and any applicable international regulatory frameworks. Liaise with regulatory authorities, addressing inquiries, disputes, and compliance issues. Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings and documentation.
Manage or coordinate internal and external legal teams on litigation or arbitration related to telecommunications disputes, including regulatory enforcement actions or customer disputes. Provide strategic advice on potential legal risks and mitigation strategies, especially in high-risk areas such as competition law and antitrust issues. Corporate Governance & Risk Management:
Support the company’s corporate governance practices, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Help implement risk management policies to address potential legal exposures in the telecommunications business environment. Assist in conducting internal investigations related to regulatory non-compliance or other legal matters.
Training & Development:
Provide training to internal teams on legal and regulatory matters relevant to the telecommunications industry. Ensure that the company’s staff are updated on legal and regulatory changes that may impact business operations.
Qualifications: Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to practice law in relevant jurisdiction.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal role within the telecommunications industry, with a focus on regulatory compliance, corporate transactions, or telecommunications law. Strong experience in drafting and negotiating complex agreements. Familiarity with Mergers & Acquisition negotiations and legal agreements. Experience working with Government entities such as FCC, Public Utility Commissions, State organizations, and Municipality entities. Experience with labor and employment laws and regulations.
Deep understanding of telecommunications law, including licensing, State and Municipality regulations, utility agreements, and regulatory frameworks. Excellent contract negotiation, drafting, and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with senior management and external stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of data protection and privacy laws, including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and related privacy regulations. Advise on all aspects of employment law, including labor relations, employee benefits, workplace policies, union avoidance, and dispute resolution. Proactive problem-solving mindset with the ability to think strategically and creatively. Familiarity with dispute resolution processes such as arbitration and mediation.
