Job Summary: The MEP Design Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design aspects of construction projects. This role ensures that MEP systems are designed, integrated, and installed efficiently and effectively, meeting project requirements, standards, and deadlines.The MEP coordinator will also be assisting in early pricing efforts to ensure the project is in alignment with the estimate.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Coordination Collaborate with architects, engineers, and electrical contractors to develop MEP design concepts and solutions to meet owner’s and project’s goals. Review and integrate MEP designs with architectural and structural plans to ensure compatibility and resolve conflicts. Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations. Define Hutton standards for MEP design Energy consumption analysis, life cycle cost analysis. Submittal reviews and process development BIM/Clash detection assistance

Preconstruction assistance Understand different MEP systems and costs associated with them, keep them up to date. Track current trends in pricing (copper, electronics, sheet metal) to ensure the database is up to date. Track and inform on building system trends and technology changes Analyze industry design standards to ensure systems align with project requirements. Assist hiring MEP consultants Oversight with trade partners who hire their own engineers in D+B process

Project Management Work with design and project teams to develop and manage MEP design schedules, ensuring timely completion of deliverables. Lead preconstruction meetings with team members. Coordinate with MEP contractors and subcontractors to monitor progress and address any issues that arise during construction. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation and records related to MEP design and implementation.

Technical Expertise Provide technical support and guidance on MEP systems, including HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, and fire protection. Perform technical reviews and quality control of MEP design and construction documents. Address and resolve design issues or conflicts, ensuring effective solutions are implemented.

Communication Serve as the primary point of contact for all MEP-related inquiries and issues during the project lifecycle. Review and coordinate approval of proposed system substitutions. Facilitate communication between design teams, contractors, and other project stakeholders. Prepare and present reports, updates, and presentations on MEP design progress and issues.

Compliance and Quality Assurance Ensure that all MEP designs meet project specifications and adhere to safety and quality standards. Conduct site inspections and reviews to verify that MEP installations are consistent with approved designs and specifications. Assist mechanical QA/QC process (diagnose and educate customers on low cost ways to maximize the efficiency of existing systems) Implement and enforce quality control procedures to maintain high standards of workmanship and compliance.

Training Educate our PM’s/PE’s on what is important in an initial review and how to effectively review their own submittals - manage the quality of the information we are sending out Track and inform on building system trends and technology changes Oversee process for owner training of building systems and controls Client education on systems pros/cons Client education on building controls

Facilities Assessment Work with HFS and owners to perform buildings assessments with a focus on MEP systems. Develop and prioritize capital improvement projects vs. regular PM, price options and communicate these with the owners.

Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Professional certification (e.g., PE license) is a plus. Experience:

Minimum of [5] years of experience in MEP design coordination or a similar role within the construction industry. Technical Skills:

Proficiency in MEP design software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD), and knowledge of relevant codes and standards. Project Management:

Experience in managing design schedules, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and handling complex project requirements. Communication Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present technical information to non-technical audiences. Problem-Solving:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address and resolve design and construction issues effectively.
