Interim Elementary Library Media Specialist - Haynesfield
Job Description
This interim position starts February 10, 2025 and will tentatively end March 21, 2025.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum master's degree with valid Tennessee teaching license required.
- Valid Tennessee teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement (073 or 473).
JOB GOAL
To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety and range of materials that will invite intellectual growth; to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates and supervises the media center to which assigned.
- Evaluates, selects, and requisitions new media center materials.
- Assists teachers in the selection of books, leveled texts, and other instructional materials, and makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
- Informs teachers and other staff members about new materials the media center acquires.
- Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials, and instructs teachers and students on use of the system.
- Incorporates digital citizenship and library standards during instructional classes.
- Oversees digital STEM space programs and student activities.
- Collaborates with teachers to design digital STEM activities that align to Tennessee State Standards.
- Works with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources.
- Promotes appropriate conduct of students using digital media center facilities.
- Maintains an inventory of instructional materials.
- Helps students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference material in relation to planned assignments.
- Presents and discusses materials with a class studying a particular topic on the invitation of the teacher.
- Counsels with and gives reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests.
- Arranges displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center’s patrons.
- Weeds obsolete and worn materials from the collection.
- Performs the clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media center.
- Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the principal.

- Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
- Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
- Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
