The library/media specialist shall be concerned with the facilitation and improvement of instruction through the use of equipment, printed materials, and non-print resources available for the support of the learning/teaching process. In addition to traditional responsibilities, the library/media specialist shall assume leadership in the application of technology as a learning tool in the media centers and in the classrooms. The library/media specialist shall support the use of computer technology in collaboration with the technology resource teachers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assumes responsibility for providing instruction to students in the use of the media center and its resources, including technology.
- Provides ongoing training and support in the effective use of media and technology to members of the faculty.
- Serves as instructional resource consultant and media specialist to teachers and students.
- Selects materials for the media center to support the instructional program subject to administrative approval.
- Manages the library/media center so that all materials, media, and technology are well organized and readily accessible to students and teachers.
- Assists teachers and students in the production of materials and media which supplement those available through other channels.
- Works with classroom teachers and technology resource teachers in curriculum planning and designing instructional experiences for students.
- Helps students to gain information literacy through inquiry and critical evaluation to develop research and reference skills, good study habits and independence in learning.
- Provides teachers with pertinent information regarding students’ progress, problems, and achievements, as observed in the media center.
- Seeks and reflects the input of certified staff when purchasing new material and media.
- Prepares and manages an annual budget for the library/media program.
- Helps interpret the functions of the media center to parents and to the community.
- Manages his/her schedule in an efficient and responsible manner.
- Promotes a positive learning environment.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Requirement: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Connecticut State Department of Education Certification required:
