Job Summary
The KSBJ APD/MD/DJ serves as a member of the KSBJ Programming Department and reports directly to the Program Director. The APD role directly supervises, coaches, develops, and schedules part-time and fill-in on-air talent. Along with the Program Director, the APD ensures the smooth functioning of the Programming Department – which includes learning, implementing, creative input, and contributing to the direction for KSBJ programming. The APD is also required to fill-in on-air for any daypart, if needed. The MD role is responsible for maintaining music-based programming that delights listeners, shares God’s love, and communicates God’s truth. Success includes developing meaningful relationships through music with people who listen. The DJ (Multi-Media Personality) role is responsible for creating a daily show that is engaging, connective, informative, and relevant – that encourages the listener to grow in their faith. Hope Media Group is a multi-brand ministry. This role resides in Houston, TX.
Essential Functions
Music Direction:
Responsible for adding, maintenance, and rotation of all music and imaging at KSBJ. This includes:
Screening new music and making recommendations for new Currents
Participation in weekly music meetings
Preparing daily KSBJ music and program logs which includes: Inputting, scheduling, and/or confirming that all songs, imaging, live cards, promos, and data are in the scheduling software, creating the live card and promo schedule – ensuring spin counts are accurate for different departmental needs and manually reviewing, editing, and exporting of logs – in order to best meet listeners’ music needs.
Preparing weekly and bi-annual auditorium music tests; integration of research
Serve as contact with record company representatives. This includes:
Tracking singles
Coordinating giveaways, interviews, artist visits, and certain artist events
Provide weekly reports for National music charts and communication to other interested parties
Oversees Word Of Hope & Community Beat
Provide reports/feedback/responses as requested, regarding music on KSBJ
Programming:
Involvement in programming functions, such as:
Assist PD with coordination of programming department
Participate in regular Programming Meeting, Promotions Meeting, Leaders Meeting, and other cross-departmental planning meetings
Regular air-check coaching, and any other needed training and supervision of Part-Time and Fill-In DJ’s
Pro-actively assist in design and implementation of compelling faith-based programming that meets the needs of KSBJ’s target listener(s), and supports KSBJ’s Mission
Creating any needed communications (including the Weekly Update/1 Sheet, Live Cards, etc.) to support programming and other initiatives
Write and disseminate programming-related memos and information as needed
Schedule and/or confirm all air-staff for on-air shows and events. This includes:
DJ’s/Emcees for concerts, Promo events, & Specialty on-air shows
Board Operators for remotes
Finding Fill-In DJ’s for Traffic, PTO, & Holiday shows
Manage/update “Part-Time & Fill-In DJ’s” calendar
Organizing/confirming requested airchecks for different departments and/or 3rd Party Organizations are compiled/received
Serve as back-up to Program Director, On-Air Utility Player, and other
On-Air staff representative as needed
Serve as back-up to ensure Severe Weather protocol/learning and Support Drive/on-air fundraising is prepared, and that on-air runs smoothly for them
Being available/responding as soon as possible to HMG staff (and/or 3rd Party Organizations) to troubleshoot and find solutions for on-air or station issues that arise
On-Air:
Responsible for hosting the daily (Monday-Friday) Overnight Show understanding of what a multi-media personality must bring to the table.
Meet regularly with PD for air-checks
Appropriately respond to a variety of issues that listeners may present
Continuous education/learning about weather and how to present it on-air to listeners during severe weather
Demonstrate a passion for the community by being friendly and welcoming to listeners at assigned community events which, at times, will be outside normal working hours
Being willing to pray with listeners on the phone and/or at events
Any other work as assigned
Producer/Editor:
Available to edit the content of songs, imaging, promos, and Live Cards.
Serve as back-up to editor/producer/board operator for Community Beat and Word Of Hope
Support the Hosts with show content as needed
Any other work as assigned
Demonstrated Faith:
Pray for co-workers in team meetings
Lead prayer in large group settings as needed
Pray for listeners when called upon to do so
Use Christian principles to work through conflict as outlined by the culture tool kit
Participate in On-air fundraisers and pray for donors over the phone as needed
Participate in ministry wide Christian Bible studies
Attend weekly Hope Huddles & Prayer Huddles for prayer and devotions
Any other work as assigned

Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years previous experience in the radio industry
At least 3 years of Programming (Program Director, Music Director, and/or Assistant Program Director) & On-Air experience
G-Selector, Zetta, Adobe Audition, Windows, & Microsoft Office experience preferred
Music Survey/Research & Auditorium Music Test experience preferred
On-Air Support Drive experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of legal and technical aspects of broadcasting
Available as needed, including nights, weekends, holidays & during severe weather
Accurate studio board work
Demonstrates and understanding of KSBJ’s audience and the Christian culture at-large
Is knowledgeable, conversant in, and demonstrates, Christian values and culture
Knowledge and understanding of Contemporary Christian Music
Excellent ability to establish and maintain relationships with industry representatives
Must be able to multi-task and have a strong eye for detail
Understanding of radio programming fundamentals and be a lifetime learner.
Computer literate; responsible for staying current with programming software such as music scheduling, production, and automation software
Able to execute, produce, and troubleshoot music clocks, logs, and song rotations
Self-starter with strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills with ability to work in an organized fashion and complete projects accurately within deadlines
