Totem Pole Playhouse – 2025 Audio and Lighting Positions
General Information
Totem Pole Playhouse, Pennsylvania’s premier professional summer theatre, is located within the breathtaking 1,200-acre Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA. We are currently seeking seasonal Audio and Lighting Staff to join us for our legendary 75th award-winning 5-show season. The Playhouse produces Equity productions and presents guest productions, including “Tucked Away Tuesdays”, as part of their summer series.
The 2025 season schedule runs from May 30th through August 31st. While there may be some flexibility with start and end dates, applicants are encouraged to be available for the entire season.
2025 Summer Series Shows: Marvelous Wonderettes, 9 to 5, The 39 Steps, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Diamond: The Neil Diamond Tribute, and our Tucked Away Tuesday Series.
Most shows include a load-in and 3-4 days of technical rehearsals, creating a unique and less hectic pace compared to traditional summer theatre. When operational, Totem Pole maintains fully staffed private scenic and costume shops. For certain staff positions, complimentary housing is available in shared staff accommodations, each offering private bedrooms. Housing locations are conveniently situated as close as 1, no further than 15 miles from the work site. Additionally, limited access to company vehicles is provided, as needed. All positions include weekly salaries.

Assistant Audio (A2)/Assistant Sound Designer
The Assistant Audio (A2) supports the sound department across all productions, including live musicals with live bands, tracked music performances, non-musical plays, and a series of rotating concerts. This position requires attendance at all public performances and rehearsals as needed. The A2 will also maintain shop hours to assist with show preparation and serve as part of the running crew for operating productions. Responsibilities include assisting the Sound Designer with QLab adjustments, mixing, and other duties as required to support the design and execution of each production. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to work under pressure are essential.
Duties include:
- Assisting the A1 with managing wireless mics, in-ear monitors, onstage monitors, direct feeds, mic'd speakers, drum kits, and other audio equipment.
- Supporting actors and musicians with microphone placement and troubleshooting during rehearsals and performances.
- Handling daily audio gear prep, including battery changes, microphone cleaning, and maintenance throughout the production runs.
- Assisting with the maintenance and repair of all audio equipment, replacing as needed.
- Conducting daily sound checks and assisting with running sound during performances and rehearsals as required.
- Serving as the mixer for Marvelous Wonderettes and The 39 Steps as needed.
- Acting as both engineer and mixer for Tucked Away Tuesdays and Summer Camps.
- Supporting the A1 as the engineer for Marvelous Wonderettes.
- Assisting the electrics team during load-ins to facilitate smooth integration of sound and lighting elements.
- Assisting the lighting department with changeover duties and notes during load-in and tech.
- Other duties traditionally assigned to this job title in live theatrical production.
- Resourcing our “Tucked Away Tuesday series and Camp Series” as needed.
Requirements:
- Proficiency with audio equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the sound team, performers, and other technical crew members.
- Capability to work on tall ladders, lift at least 50 lbs., and work long, demanding hours.
Weekly Salary Range $400-450 DEO
Assistant Electrician:
The Assistant Electrician is responsible for working directly with the Head Electrician on the planning, load-in, and strike of lighting equipment for a fast-paced 5-show season. The candidate will assist in executing lighting plots and will run the lighting console for all performances. A strong understanding of instrumentation, rigging, electricity and circuiting, and programming (ETC) is required to ensure efficient plot changeovers and smooth show operation.
This position will keep shop hours to help prepare shows in rehearsal and will also serve as part of the running crew during productions.
Duties include:
- Running the lighting console for all performances, ensuring smooth transitions and cue execution.
- Working directly with the Head Electrician to maintain and supervise the lighting rig (72 dimmers, over 120 fixtures, primarily conventional with LED Source, and a handful of rented movers).
- Programming the lighting console as needed and preparing for rehearsals and performances.
- Preparing “practicals,” LED tape, power inverters, and other specialty items for use in shows.
- Conducting basic equipment maintenance and ensuring safety protocols are followed when working around power.
- Assisting in the load-in and strike of lighting equipment.
- Other duties traditionally assigned to this job title in live theatrical production.
- Resourcing our “Tucked Away Tuesday series and Camp Series” as needed.
Requirements:
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with the Head Electrician and other team members under pressure.
- Ability to work on tall ladders, lift at least 50 lbs., and work long, demanding hours.
- Willingness to take on additional technical projects as directed by the Producer.
Salary Range $370-425 DEO
