We are looking for an Assignment Editor to join our team to win on breaking news, work with reporters & producers to identify must-see content, assist in planning special event coverage and keep our connections alive in the community.

The ideal candidate is a journalist with experience in reporting or producing. You are adept at generating story ideas for this unique market, have strong news judgment, and are effective at collaborating with newsroom staff. You contribute to story ideas, advance developing stories, and collaborate with the leadership team on daily news-gathering efforts. This is a role for someone who thrives in a high-energy position and has a keen ability to balance multiple tasks under pressure.

Responsibilities:

  1. Strong assignment editor/writing skills
  2. Working in multiple content management systems
  3. Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  4. Ability to identify stories that could go viral
  5. Ability to work with reporters to develop assigned stories
  6. Working under tight deadlines
  7. Gathering information
  8. Identifying breaking news on scanners
  9. Ability to verify confirmed information during breaking news situations
  10. Assigning and dispatching crews, assisting crews with contacts and research, and publishing original content to the website
  11. Strong writing and copy editing skills with excellent editorial judgment, time management, and multi-tasking skills
  12. Enterprise news through beat calls, social media, and cultivated sources

Requirements:

  1. Ability to prioritize and manage requests from various sources and work well with varied personalities on deadline
  2. Excellent in managing news crews and news judgment
  3. Outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
  4. Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience required
  5. 3 to 5 years’ experience preferred

Pay Range: $30 - $35 USD
