Come be a part of the Library Community Services (Bookmobile) team by providing library materials and information to the public through bookmobile and delivery services.

As the Community Services Library Senior Associate, some of the things you will do are:

  • Provides information and materials to the public including assistance in locating library materials, information and use of equipment.
  • Safely operates library vehicles such as bookmobiles, trucks, and vans.
  • Follows all guidelines for Bookmobile operation established in the training manual and during training. Completes pre- and post-trip vehicle inspection forms. Follows all established departmental driving rules, including but not limited to, reporting personal driving infractions to librarian and supervisor, and completing in-house driver training.
  • Assists in daily dock duties.
  • Assists with library card registration and lost library card replacement, addresses patron account inquiries such as updating personal information, collecting payment for or resolving patron account charges, setting up payment plans, and addressing long overdue titles or problem items.
  • Files and performs data entry tasks that relate to the status of bookmobile materials such as files, restocks shelves, processes reserves, and circulates library materials.
  • Maintains assigned Community Services collections.
  • Assists patrons inquiring about Community Information Services, periodicals, databases, files, interlibrary loans, and other information.
  • Delivers materials to community partners and customer homes as needed.
  • Sets-up and maintains daily off-site bookmobile locations and performs duties associated with regular bookmobile service.
  • Processes credit card transactions for use in completing customer transactions.
  • Assists during emergencies while on Bookmobiles to ensure staff and patron safety and limits disruptions to service. Follows up with supervisor, administration, and security as needed.
  • Maintains prompt arrival and efficiently and dependably maintains scheduled hours.

Position Requirements/Preferences

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with insurable driving record is required. Must successfully complete and pass new employee Bookmobile vehicle training during the first six months of employment and complete annual training thereafter.

Preferred:

  • Multi-lingual fluency in English and at least one other language.

Physical Requirements:

  • Bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing materials weighing up to 100 pounds, reaching, the ability to climb stairs, talking on the telephone and stationary work at a computer. Height limitation due to low ceilings is 6ft 4in.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required:

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong service orientation.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite software applications and Internet searching techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patrons, volunteers, community partners, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member, be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of City/County streets.
  • Strong public service orientation.

SCHEDULE: 8am-5pm Monday-Friday with rotating schedule of required night and Saturday shifts.

PAY & BENEFITS: Starting hourly rate will be in the range of $16.80 to $20.58 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits including health & dental insurance with pre-tax premiums, and a retirement plan (Kansas Public Employees Retirement System KPERS). Group life, disability coverage and accidental death benefits are also provided. Other optional benefits available at employee's expense include vision, life and cancer insurance and a deferred compensation plan.
