Chief Objective of Position

Adjunct faculty supplement the full-time faculty by teaching courses which are necessary for the department but for which instructors may be lacking. The goal of this position is to facilitate our ability to meet the growing needs of the department in this area.

Job Summary

Adjunct instructors will be expected to teach courses in studio art. Current areas in need include watercolor and/or illustration. Other opportunities may exist, depending on the department's scheduling and the instructor's skillset.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must satisfy one of the following requirements: 1) a master's degree in the field/discipline in which they are teaching; 2) enrolled in a master's program with at least 18 hours of relevant coursework completed; 3) significant professional experience, subject to approval by the Provost.

Preferred Qualifications

MFA degree with teaching experience at the college level. Experience as a graduate teaching assistant may be acceptable.

Education

Adjunct faculty must hold an advanced degree or equivalent credentials based on experience consistent with the accreditation criteria of the discipline and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

All faculty must have at least a Master's degree in the field in which they are teaching with 18 graduate hours of coursework related to the specified discipline. In some cases, subject to the approval by the Provost, recommendation for appointment may be based on the substitution of significant experience for the degree. A memo from the Dean placed in the instructor's personnel file is required to justify an exception to the accreditation standards of SACS and must include certification of the knowledge and skills.

Alternate work schedule

Some classes may be scheduled for evening hours depending on classroom availability and the overall schedule of courses. Some classes may be taught remotely, pending approval from the chair.
