We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Teaching Artist to inspire creativity in families through engaging art workshops. As a Teaching Artist at the Lowe Art Museum, you will lead “Family Art Workshops,” monthly programs for intergenerational groups, designed to offer an opportunity to engage with current exhibitions at the Lowe or delve into the rich stories behind our permanent collection. The museum currently offers two 45-minute art making sessions from 10:30 AM to 11:15 AM and 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM. You will collaborate closely with the Education Programs Lead and the Technology and Engagement Department to develop and deliver enriching art experiences for families visiting the Lowe. Play a pivotal role in nurturing creativity and inspiring the next generation of artists and art enthusiasts!
Responsibilities
- Develop and facilitate 2-hour art workshops that cater to families of varying ages and skill levels.
- Collaborate with the Education Programs Lead and the Technology and Engagement Department to develop workshops centered around the Lowe’s permanent collection or temporary exhibitions.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
- Provide guidance, instruction, and feedback to participants during workshops.
- Prepare and set up materials and equipment for each workshop.
- Assist with workshop promotion and outreach to maximize participation.
- Evaluate and assess the effectiveness of workshops and make improvements as needed.
- Maintain a safe and clean workshop space.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a teaching artist or art educator, particularly in a museum setting, is a plus.
- Strong artistic and creative skills with expertise in various art mediums and techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and connect with diverse audiences, including children and families.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate Saturday workshops once a month.
- Enthusiasm for promoting art education and a passion for fostering creativity.
- Bachelor’s degree in art education, fine arts, or a related field preferred.
- Level two background check required.
