Position Summary
The Full-Time Library Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality library services, ensuring value-added experiences for all customers. This position primarily focuses on working with children ages 0-10 years, providing support to school-age children and their parents, and delivering services in a fast-paced environment on the children's floor. Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as the role involves frequent shifts between processing materials, assisting at Adult and circulation service points, and engaging with customers of all ages.

Schedule: Full Time Benefit Eligible, 40 hours per week
Mondays 8 am to 5 pm
Tuesdays 11 am – 8 pm
Wednesdays 11 am to 8 pm
Thursdays 8 am – 5 pm
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (every 3-week rotation weekend schedule) 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Summer (alternate Friday and Saturday rotation)
Essential Functions
- Promote the library’s collection and services
- Perform circulation activities
- Provide service desk coverage
- Provide materials to appropriate bins for transfer
- Provide research assistance to customers
- Utilize integrated library systems software
- Assist customers at several service points (primarily Children’s floor)
- Train and assist customers on various library policies, procedures, and processes
- Collaborate with Librarians to deliver programming and outreach services
- Assist with volunteer management
- Perform shelving and weeding duties
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience including library or retail.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of integrated library systems software (IE: Horizon)
Bilingual/Spanish speaking
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
