Library Circulation Assistant, Town of Needham (Needham)
The Town of Needham is seeking passionate individuals to fill the part-time position of Library Circulation Assistant at the Needham Free Public Library. Reporting to the Library Circulation Supervisor, the Library Circulation Assistant will support in a patron-facing capacity, assisting in providing information and processing library checkouts and other services. The ideal candidate will have a strong administrative or support background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for serving the Needham community.
Anticipated Work Schedule:
- Weeks 1, 3, and 4: Tuesdays 5:30-9 p.m.; Fridays 1-5:30 p.m.; Saturdays 12-3:30 p.m.
- Week 2: Sundays 1-6 p.m. (1-5 p.m. during Summer hours); Tuesdays 5:30-9 p.m.; Fridays 1-5:30 p.m.; Saturdays 12-3:30 p.m.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with library patrons; assisting them with information and/or directing them to appropriate locations or staff.
- Process library checkouts, renewals, returns, reserves, fines, registrations.
- Maintain orderliness of materials collection.
- Perform other circulation procedures as required.
Qualifications
The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job:
- Extensive technical or specialized training such as that which would be acquired by an Associate’s Degree or two years of technical or business school.
- At least one year of experience, preferably in a library setting.
- Excellent customer service skills and capacity to interact effectively and tactfully with the general public.
- Familiarity with computers with the ability to perform detailed work accurately and efficiently.
- Capability to adapt to new technologies as required.
- Capability of standing for long stretches as well as bending, lifting up to 45 lbs., and pushing book carts loaded with books.
