What You’ll Do:
The Social Media Manager plays a pivotal role in shaping Participate Learning’s digital presence by collaborating with the Director, Partner Experience and Communication on social media strategy, leading the implementation of said strategy, content creation, and community engagement. This position is responsible for developing and executing innovative campaigns across multiple platforms, with a strong emphasis on video content to elevate the organization’s storytelling and brand identity. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Social Media Manager ensures alignment with organizational goals, while mentoring and supervising the Social Media and Communications Strategist. Through data-driven insights and creative approaches, this role will expand the organization’s reach, enhance audience engagement, and support its mission of uniting the world through global learning.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Social Media Manager oversees the Social Media and Communications Strategist, providing mentorship, direction, and regular feedback to ensure their professional growth and alignment with both the social media strategy and overall organizational goals.
- This role is responsible for implementing the strategic vision for social media initiatives and ensuring the strategist has the resources and support necessary to execute them effectively.
- The Social Media Manager also collaborates cross-functionally with marketing, events, partner engagement, and other teams to integrate social media into broader organizational efforts.
Social Media Strategy and Campaign Management
- Collaborate with the Director, Partner Experience and Communications and develop a comprehensive social media strategy to align with organizational goals and branding guidelines.
- Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of multi-platform social media campaigns that increase engagement, reach, and conversions.
- Create and manage a social media content calendar, ensuring a consistent and effective posting schedule.
- Monitor and analyze campaign performance metrics to optimize strategy and content for better results.
Content Creation and Video Production
- Oversee and actively participate in the creation of high-quality, engaging content, including written posts, graphics, and videos.
- Lead the production and editing of video content, ensuring alignment with social media trends and audience preferences.
- Establish and enforce quality standards for all social media content, maintaining a consistent brand voice and aesthetic.
Community Engagement and Growth
- Actively engage with online communities, responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Develop strategies to foster community growth, including partnerships with influencers and stakeholders.
- Identify and leverage user-generated content to enhance authenticity and connection with audiences.
Analytics and Reporting
- Collaborate with the Marketing Analytics Manager to track, analyze, and report on social media metrics and KPIs, providing actionable insights to leadership and marketing teams.
- Use data-driven strategies to inform decision-making and improve future content and campaigns.
- Present regular performance updates and recommendations for social media optimization.
Leadership and Team Collaboration
- Guide the Social Media and Communications Strategist in executing day-to-day tasks and achieving professional development goals.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to ensure social media efforts are integrated into broader marketing and organizational strategies.
- Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in social media and digital marketing.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide training and resources to internal staff on social media best practices and brand standards.
- Develop and maintain a social media playbook to ensure continuity and consistency in strategies.
- Evaluate and implement tools to streamline content creation, scheduling, and analytics processes.
- Monitor social media for potential issues and promptly report them to the Director, Partner Experience and Communications to mitigate risks and determine next steps.
Requirements
Experience You Bring:
Technical Proficiency
- Proficient with major social media platforms (such as Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube) and scheduling tools (such as Sprout Social).
- Advanced video production skills using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and other similar software.
- Strong knowledge of analytics platforms such as Google Analytics and Meta Business Suite.
- Proficient in using the latest versions for communications, task management, and presentations (such as Google Office Suite).
- Experience leveraging AI tools to enhance digital content creation, including but not limited to video editing, generating captions, analyzing trends, and optimizing visuals.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent work experience may substitute for a degree.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in social media management, including the successful execution of multi-platform campaigns.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in video production and editing for social media.
- Experience in the education field is an asset but not required.
Other Essential Requirements
- Domestic travel as needed, including to our Chapel Hill office or other locations for meetings and events.
- Weekend and evening work during Ambassador Teacher orientation events (including but not limited to summer and fall), staff events, and other activities as needed.
