Social Media Intern-Position Summary

The Social Media Intern will report to the Director, Partner Experience and Communications and play a key role in capturing and creating engaging content for Participate Learning's social media platforms, communities of practice, and other purposes. This internship is ideal for individuals passionate about video creation and editing, digital storytelling, content creation, and global education. The intern will focus on gathering real-time content at summer events, producing high-quality videos, and collaborating with the team to visually showcase the impact of Participate Learning's programs.

This internship is ideal for individuals passionate about video and content creation. Within a fast-paced business environment, this role offers hands-on experience in the international education and J-1 cultural exchange sectors.

Essential Functions

  • Capture high-quality photo and video content at summer events to highlight Participate Learning's mission and initiatives.
  • Create, edit, and produce short-form video content optimized for social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Facebook) and online communities of practice.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining a digital asset library of media collected at events.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to ensure visual content aligns with Participate Learning's brand identity.
  • Stay informed about trends in video creation and social media content to bring fresh, creative ideas to the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Key Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Education Requirements
Education and Certification
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, Film Production, or a related field preferred.
Experience
  • Prior experience in content creation, photography, videography, or video production.
Technical Proficiency
  • Experience with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive) for event planning, collaboration, and documentation.
    Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools like Canva or Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
  • Understanding of video composition, lighting, and storytelling techniques.
  • Ability to capture high-quality photos and videos using a smartphone or professional camera.
Communication Skills
  • Strong visual storytelling skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact professionally with event attendees while capturing content.
  • Effective collaboration skills to work closely with the team and event participants.
  • Bilingualism is a plus, though not required.
Project Management and Organization
  • Ability to manage multiple content projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality, polished content.
Other Essential Requirements
  • Available to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer, with potential evening or weekend event coverage.
  • Ability to regularly travel between event locations in Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Durham as needed.
  • Willing to spend 2-3 weeks in D.C. for Arrival Orientation sessions.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced environments with quick turnaround times for content creation.
