About America’s Tapestry
The project is designed to commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026 with a particular emphasis on the untold, often overlooked stories of the American Revolution. This project is conducted in alliance with Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA and funded by the Coby Foundation.
America’s Tapestry features 13 hand-embroidered panels, one for each original colony, depicting individuals or events that contributed to the Revolution. The design for each panel will be drawn by a young illustrator within each state in collaboration with historical advisors in each state.
Each of the 13 states will host their panel during its construction from 2025-2026. Embroiderers from the Embroiderers’ Guild of America will stitch the illustration in a historically appropriate venue, allowing the public to engage with the work while it is being completed. Associated educational and artistic programming will be coordinated to complement the embroidery process.
Upon completion, the 13 panels will debut at the Muscarelle Art Museum in July 2026 before traveling to venues across the Eastern Seaboard for audiences to enjoy during the Semiquincentennial.
This would be a fantastic opportunity for a promising student’s work to be seen on a national platform!
