Senior Project Manager - Newport News, VA

The Role

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, coordination, and control of several projects and/or contracts. The Senior Project Manager serves as the primary leader of the construction program, liaising between team members and clients on all matters. Projects will generally range from $2,000 to $500,000 each or $1,500,000 annually. This role may have direct reports.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years' experience in the construction industry with a commercial or industrial general contractor
  • Extensive experience managing and coordinating multiple projects, personnel, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Experienced in producing detailed fixed price estimates; ability to use RS Means or other published unit price books
  • Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods
  • Effective negotiating skills
  • Strong ability to:

    • Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field highly desired


Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Plans, coordinates, and manages all facets necessary to complete projects within budget and on time; manages projects according to contract requirements; enforces Quality Control Plan; attends project meetings and site visits; manages project scope of work; reviews proposal scope of work, specifications, and drawings; manages project close-out.
  • Estimating: Performs independent review of estimates based on technical specifications, scope of work, and drawings; confirms necessary line items are included in the estimate.
  • Subcontractor Management: Manages coordination of subcontractor buyout; reviews project cost requirements for compliance; manages negotiations and submittal process.
  • Scheduling: Establishes and maintains project schedules; manages projects utilizing schedules, RFI, submittal logs, and cost information.
  • Business Development: Contacts customers to discuss needs; assists proposal and business development departments as needed.
  • Safety: Ensures compliance with Centennial's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) guidelines and local requirements.


  • Responsible for driving between project sites that may be miles apart from the assigned office location.
  • Occasional travel may be required.


  • Performance of job duties will be in an office environment and visits to construction sites under various weather conditions.
  • Physical demands include:
    • Ability to walk uneven terrain
    • Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
    • Ability to use hands for various tasks
    • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, or reach
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
    • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception
