OVERVIEW This position is located at the Smithsonian Institution, office of the Undersecretary for Museums & Culture, Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings (SFR). SFR is the non-profit label of Smithsonian Institution (SI). As part of the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage (CFCH), its mission is to record, produce, and disseminate music by, for, and of the people. This position serves as a project manager, managing both individual and team projects from conception through to completion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent supports all other SFR Managers on multiple and simultaneous projects. Maintains schedules; prepares procurement requests; drafts scopes of work for contracts; and develops portions of budgets. Manages the internships or fellowship functions for SFR. Coordinates opportunities, managing stipends and onboards selectees for interns and fellows. Resolves administrative problems. Researches, writes and tracks grant proposals, and coordinates the status of projects with SFR external producing partners. Works with Director/Curator and Associate Director of Operations to manage conversations on ethical issues as they pertain to the SFR catalog. Ensures that special projects move forward in a timely and effective manner.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of project management principles, methods, and practices. Ability to effectively coordinate the work of internal and external project teams. Knowledge to use project management software, including MS Teams and MS Office. Knowledge of educational content creation that incorporates culturally diverse musical traditions. Ability to use web development technologies, including HTML5, and Adobe CC. Knowledge of a wide range of technologies, including content management systems. Ability to manage the interns/fellows’ program. Knowledge of Ethnomusicology for content production and review. Knowledge of administrative and financial recordkeeping.
