INTERN – LIBRARY & CULTURAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT

$18.50 per hour

The City of Mission Viejo is accepting applications from qualified applicants for the position of Intern. Currently, there are five (5) vacancies scheduled to work at the Mission Viejo Library for fifteen (15) weeks.


Interns are considered at-will Hourly, Seasonal, and/or Temporary variable hour employees, and are not a part of the competitive service. An internship is a temporary position that does not lead to regular City employment.


SEARCH SCHEDULE: The first round of Zoom interviews is tentatively scheduled for some time during the week of February 10, 2025. Only one date will be available for an applicant to attend. The City will not accommodate applicant scheduling requests for alternate dates. It is recommended that you plan your calendar accordingly when you apply.


The Mission Viejo Library will offer 9 local high school students a paid internship experience over the next 9 months that includes real-world experience in the workplace, leadership opportunities, and social emotional learning. Interns will work in cohorts of 4 and 5 for 15 weeks in various areas of the Library to increase their job preparedness skills and provide meaningful work that benefits both the Library and the community.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Interns will take on leadership roles with library events.
  • Work with committees, and oversee projects.
  • Work on budgeting, marketing, and networking tasks.
  • Assignments will depend on the interest of the intern and the needs of the Library.
  • Assignments could include developing social media content, event planning and implementation, photography, collection development, and outreach responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • All interns must complete 15 work hours/week.
  • Available to work February 24th through June 13.
  • 15 hours must be completed onsite; required days/times onsite while school is in session are: Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Remaining onsite hours for the remainder of the week will be determined with Supervisor.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled in high school. Proficiency in basic computer skills, comfortable working with others on team projects, interest in working with children/families, good communication skills.
