Position Summary
Responsible for checking in and out Library materials; registering customers; providing customer support; collecting fines; performing data entry; assisting with the maintenance of Library collections; and conducting searches for materials as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / GUIDELINES
The following generally describes the knowledge, ability, and education required to successfully perform the job duties.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and 1-year customer service related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing/Certifications:
Possession or ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Standard library practices, procedures and functions; filing methods and recordkeeping to maintain accurate information in alphabetical, chronological and/or numerical order; and standard library clerical practices; Basic math and recordkeeping concepts and practices; Customer service principles; Handling cash and making change; Modern office equipment; Utilizing a computer and relevant software applications; Gather, sort and organize materials in alphabetic, numeric or alphanumeric order; Ability to provide attention to detail; Communication and interpersonal skills to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Disaster Service Workers:
Under California Government Code Sections 3100 - 3109, public employees are designated as disaster service workers. The term "public employees" includes all persons employed by the state or any county, city, state agency, or public district. Disaster service workers are required to participate in such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them by their employer or by law. The employees working for the City of Rancho Mirage take this responsibility seriously. Disaster plans are continuously being evaluated, drills are scheduled, and employees engage in training where they practice executing emergency support services.
ADA and Other Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require: prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing statistical reports and data using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near vision in reading correspondence, statistical data, and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. In the event of an emergency, library workers are required to assist patrons with evacuation. Physical mobility and physical strength to lift, carry, or assist others with walking is a requirement of this position.

Position Summary

- Receives, returns and renews circulated materials; collects fines; inspects returned materials for damages; and repairs materials. Retrieves, sorts and/or shelves library materials as needed.
- Responds to customers by providing routine information, answering questions, assisting with office and library equipment, and/or referring customers to appropriate resources.
- Circulates books and other library materials; performs data entry; reviews, processes and assists patrons with library hold requests and materials.
- Registers new customer accounts in library system; verifies customer account information; issues and/or renews library cards.
- Prepares lists, reports and other documents, checks and maintains supply inventory; sorts and distributes mail.
- Receives, unpacks and checks against invoices deliveries of library materials. Ensures that items are clearly labeled and include any applicable embargo dates. Processes and catalogs materials. Ensures that materials are in ILS and are ready for use by the public.
- Places orders for library materials through designated vendors. Downloads/uploads MARC records into Library ILS from vendors. Edits MARC records to fit/reflect library material holdings.
- Ensures the Library workspaces are clean and orderly.
- Performs other duties of similar nature and level as assigned to address organizational needs and changing organizational practices.
