The Contract Instructional Designer will play a key role in developing innovative, high-impact learning solutions as part of the Learning and Development (L&D) Center of Excellence (CoE). This position focuses on creating best-in-class curriculum and maintaining consistent design standards while supporting various learning programs such as onboarding, career development, and process training. The role requires strong collaboration with stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs) to deliver solutions aligned with business objectives and adult learning principles.


Core Duties and Responsibilities

Team Operations

  • Adhere to team operating procedures, service level agreements (SLAs), and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Collaborate effectively within a small team of creative professionals.
  • Create and maintain templates for instructional materials, ensuring consistency across learning deliverables.

Design and Development

  • Develop learning objectives, design documents, storyboards, scripts, assessments, and job aids.
  • Collaborate with content owners to create impactful course material using various discovery methods.
  • Leverage multi-channel delivery methods to address custom training needs.
  • Build tools for instructor-led and self-paced learning, incorporating experiential and engaging content.
  • Utilize authoring tools (e.g., Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline & Rise) and animations to create high-quality training materials.
  • Apply the ADDIE model or similar frameworks to develop training tools for diverse delivery methods.
  • Incorporate the latest learning methodologies and technologies, including classroom, virtual, e-learning, and VR/AR modalities.
  • Ensure SCORM and xAPI compliance for learning content.

Business Partnerships

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to establish learning objectives aligned with business goals.
  • Manage multiple projects with competing priorities and varying leadership input.
  • Conduct needs assessments and develop tailored learning solutions through the instructional design process.

Learner Experiences

  • Stay informed on learning trends, technologies, and platforms to enhance training offerings.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain courses to ensure a seamless learner experience.
  • Continuously evaluate training programs and recommend updates for improved effectiveness.
  • Create engaging learning experiences that resonate emotionally with audiences.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Proven ability to develop content across various learning modalities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cross-functional projects.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with development tools such as Captivate, Camtasia, and Articulate (Storyline & Rise).
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems REQUIRED (e.g., Docebo).
  • Working knowledge of SCORM 2004, 4th Edition, and xAPI standards.

This is a 90 day contract with the potential to convert. Pay range is 35-45/hr and converts at 90K annually once permanent. This role is Hybrid in Chicago
