Job Title: Communication Specialist
Location: Hybrid (2 days in-office, 3 days remote)
Department: Marketing and Communications
Reports To: Senior Director of Marketing, Communications and Corporate Relations

Position Summary:
The Communication Specialist will be responsible for managing enterprise-level communications, supporting key meeting communications, and overseeing the organization’s email marketing efforts. This role plays a critical part in ensuring cohesive messaging across all channels, driving engagement with stakeholders, and delivering high-quality content for AANS initiatives, events, and programs. The role offers a hybrid working environment, with two days in-office and three days remote, ensuring flexibility while fostering strong collaboration with internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Enterprise Communications:
• Develop and manage enterprise-wide communications, ensuring consistent messaging across all departments and channels.
• Draft and edit internal and external communications, including newsletters, announcements, and reports, to keep stakeholders informed of key initiatives and updates.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate dissemination of organizational news.

2. Meeting Communications:
• Support communication strategies for key AANS meetings, including the Annual Meeting and Spine Summit.
• Create and manage pre-event, on-site, and post-event communications, ensuring attendees are well-informed at every stage.
• Develop content for event marketing materials, including promotional emails, agendas, and attendee guides.

3. Email Marketing:
• Manage the organization’s email marketing calendar and coordinate the timely delivery of emails for enterprise initiatives and events.
• Create, proofread, and schedule email campaigns, ensuring high-quality content, accurate segmentation, and adherence to best practices.
• Track and report on email campaign performance, providing insights to improve engagement and open rates.

4. Content Development:
• Write and edit high-quality content for a variety of channels, including web, email, social media, and print.
• Ensure that all content aligns with AANS branding and style guidelines.
• Work closely with graphic design and digital marketing teams to develop cohesive content for campaigns.

5. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Collaborate with corporate relations, education, and meetings teams to gather relevant information and ensure accurate, timely communication to key audiences.
• Partner with the marketing team to align communication efforts with broader organizational goals.

6. Performance Tracking and Reporting:
• Monitor the effectiveness of communication and email marketing efforts using analytics tools.
• Provide regular reports on key metrics, including open rates, click-through rates, and overall engagement, with recommendations for improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience: 2-4 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field, preferably in health care, education, or nonprofit sectors.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Email Marketing Expertise: Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Informz, Mailchimp) and a solid understanding of email best practices.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally with multiple teams and departments.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong proofreading and editing skills, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all communications.
  • Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with marketing and communication tools, including email platforms, content management systems, and analytics tools.
