Job Description:

Working collaboratively with faculty and students, the Instruction Librarian/Reference Coordinator will ensure a meaningful library presence in both online and face-to-face courses. They will plan, teach, and assess information literacy instruction sessions across the curriculum. They will be responsible for mediating the intersection of information literacy instruction, instructional design, and learning technologies, and for providing leadership in effective pedagogy. They will also contribute to and coordinate reference services, both online and face-to-face, and serve as a liaison to select academic departments and other campus constituencies. As a full-time tenure-track faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to actively serve on library and campus governance committees as part of meeting the requirements for obtaining continuing appointment (tenure). This will be a 10-month appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide information literacy instruction in all disciplines, conducting online, face-to-face, and hybrid instructional sessions using current and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and maintain instructional content.
  • Coordinate and participate in multimodal reference services, including occasional nights and weekends.
  • Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments and participate in collection development for those areas.
  • Assess and evaluate information literacy and reference services.
  • Serve as a faculty resource regarding instructional design, pedagogy, and emerging technologies.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Librarianship/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Experience teaching information literacy sessions and/or courses.
  • Commitment to advancing the mission of the library.
  • Academic background, coursework, or relevant experience in teaching.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create online media using tools such as Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, LibWizard, or similar.
  • Understanding of library assessment and instructional design principles.
  • Familiarity with library and educational applications of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), digital scholarship, etc.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to meet the expectations of a tenure-track faculty member.
  • Familiarity with course management systems (Moodle, Blackboard, Brightspace, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work experience in an academic library setting.
  • Experience leading an information literacy program.
  • Experience providing academic reference services.
  • Experience creating LibGuides.
  • Proficiency in user experience (UX) and instructional design principles.
  • Experience working with first-year experience programs.
  • Instructional experience with online course management systems.

Additional Information:

  • The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $55,000.
  • This is a term, full-time, academic-year appointment.
