The Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse (CADA) is seeking a Grant Writer to join our dedicated team in Santa Barbara. This role plays a vital part in advancing our mission by identifying and securing funding opportunities that support our programs and services.
As a Grant Writer, youll craft compelling grant proposals, research funding prospects, and collaborate closely with our team to align grant opportunities with our organizational goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives addressing substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges in our community.
Join a well-established nonprofit organization that has been serving Santa Barbara County since 1949 and help us make a difference in the lives of youth, adults, and families.
This is a full-time position, 30 hours per week. This position is remote-eligible, allowing for a work-from-home arrangement if needed. However, the selected candidate must live within one hour of Santa Barbara due to periodic in-office obligations.
Qualifications:
Compensation is dependent of the level of prior experience and qualifications, with a salary range of $35-$45 per hour, and a rate increase potential for bilingual (Spanish/English).
In compliance with the California Department of Health Care Services, staff require an up-to-date Tuberculosis test during the duration of employment.

Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required
- Grant writing experience
- Experience securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities
- Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, exceptional time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent writing and verbal skills
- Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data
- Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel), and database management skills
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
- Must reside within one hour of Santa Barbara, as some in-office attendance is required for meetings and presentations
- Research and identify funding opportunities from government, corporate, foundation, and private sources
- Write high-quality grant proposals, applications, and supporting documents
- Ensure timely submission of proposals and grant reports to meet funding requirements
- Maintain grant schedules, track submissions, and monitor reporting deadlines
- Serve as the primary liaison with funding agencies and organizations
- Collaborate with staff to draft letters of inquiry, concept papers, and proposals
- Track and report the status of submitted proposals
- Maintain and update a master file of pending grants and contracts
- Stay informed on trends and updates in grant proposal standards and funding opportunities
- Regularly meet with staff to discuss and align funding needs
- Ensure compliance with organizational and state grant management policies
- Advise staff on allowable expenditures for specific grants
- Report grant progress and address issues to supervisors as needed
- Maintain confidentiality regarding employee information
