Position Summary:

Responsible for the routine operation of the library media center. Assists the library media specialist with office/clerical duties, locating, circulating and shelving library materials, textbooks, and equipment. Supports the mission of the Library and Instructional Media Program, and promotes access to library resources by providing technical assistance to the library media specialist and assistance to teachers, students, and other patrons.

Essential Duties:

Daily Operational Tasks

  • Assists with creating a welcoming environment by keeping the library books looking clean, attractive, organized and clutter-free; create and maintain attractive library displays; provide readers’ advisory such as suggesting fiction and nonfiction titles to students.
  • Assists with cataloging and circulating materials; circulate library books, textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment; process/request interlibrary loan requests in Destiny Library Manager; process/request textbook transfer requests in Destiny Resource Manager; gather materials for teachers and shelve books.
  • Assist with reports to monitor obligations (overdue and lost), library and textbook inventory.
  • Assist students and teachers with access to OKCPS online resources in Destiny, Discovery Education streaming, EBSCO, GALE, PebbleGo, PebbleGoNext, PebbleGo Creat, SORA, Teachingbooks.net, and World Book Online.

Library Clerk Daily Operational Technology Tasks

  • Assist students with all aspects of technology-related needs.
  • Assign devices to students; check out devices to students and check in returned devices (Incident IQ); create device requests (Incident IQ); if a device is damaged or not functioning properly, check in the device and submit an IIQ ticket for the device to be picked up for repair.
  • Troubleshoot issues such as resetting devices for students (Chromebook profile reset, re-enroll, powerwash, or iPad reset settings, or factory restore); connect iPad OKCPS-Deploy and Chromebooks to OKCPS-Secure Wi-Fi; if a device is not holding a charge, test the charger on a different device to ensure it is working, and inspect wires for damage; contact Client Services for issues needing additional attention (Tier 2 troubleshooting); assist students with troubleshooting and solving technical issues with their devices.
  • Manage inventory to confirm students are returning the device assigned to them before checking out a replacement for a damaged or nonfunctioning device; report and create tickets for lost, missing, or stolen student devices; print name labels and barcodes for devices; maintain inventory of all available devices and working chargers at the school site; identify a designated and clearly marked area for pick-up and drop-off or a container for devices with tickets; clean iPad cases and Chromebooks.
  • Provide policy guidance for personal care and primary use of student devices.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):

  • High School Diploma or GED required plus one of the following:
    • Hold an Associate’s Degree or higher; Completed at least two years (48 credit hours) of college study; Passed the OGET test; Pass the Education Testing Service Parapro Assessment Test (passing score is 455) or the Workkeys Assessment (Passing score is 4 or better on all three parts).
  • Basic communication skills to exchange information, give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries; knowledge of grammatical structure and vocabulary for preparing correspondence from rough draft or proofing of completed material; ability to communicate in clear, grammatically correct English.
  • Ability to learn and share with students and staff the use of computer applications, electronic databases, and web-based programs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer.
  • Adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material.
  • Normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone.
  • Some stooping, bending, stretching, and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.
  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions to meet business needs and strict deadlines.

Work Environment:

  • Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
