Job Description

Well is looking for a creative and ambitious reporter to produce outstanding journalism that will help Times readers live healthier lives. The Well desk offers science-based guidance on a range of topics including mental and physical health, exercise, nutrition, relationships, and wellness trends. You'll cover news and service in health and wellness, and guide readers as they make decisions about their mental and physical health. You'll write traditional news stories, service, explainers, visual pieces, trend stories, and enterprise.

You should be able to connect the dots and spot news and trends before our competitors get to them. You should be truly passionate about health and wellness. You should have tons of ideas, a track record of breaking news, and the desire to be the go-to source for a health-obsessed audience.

This role requires precision, attention to detail, understanding of deadlines, and the ability to work with a team, including close partnerships with editors on the desk. Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Reporting several stories a month
  • Monitoring the news and generating relevant story ideas
  • Monitoring the latest health studies and trends to conceive of fresh and compelling story ideas
  • Collaborating with visual editors on assignments
  • Adhering to the Times’s editorial standards
  • Developing stories that include a wide range of voices and perspectives
  • Being an idea machine
  • Experience in a news organization a plus

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 + years as a digital lifestyle and/or health reporter
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proven track record of producing first in class health and/or lifestyle journalism
  • Passionate about health, wellness, news and service journalism

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

The annual base pay salary for this role is between $108,872.22 and $125,000.00.
