The CBS Evening News PLUS Broadcast Associate is an entry-level journalism position which supports all members of the broadcast while providing excellent opportunities to learn the basics of reporting and production at a major network news operation.

The ideal candidate is a team player who has excellent inter-personal skills, exceptional organizational skills, is detail-oriented, and has a passion for current events. The role requires keeping a calm head under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.

Work Schedule: This position requires in-person attendance at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City. Hours are 10am – 7:30pm.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Perform administrative, operational, and editorial tasks as directed by Senior Management.
  2. Assist producers in various capacities (transcribe tape, retrieve archive tape, feed tape, research stories, clear video/photos for air).
  3. Set up logistics for interviews and log interviews for producers.
  4. Attend daily editorial meetings with potential to pitch stories that demonstrate sound news judgment.
  5. Prepare daily Opposition Logs and Rights Manager file (detailing content of CBS Evening News and competitor’s broadcasts and details of all outside footage/photos used in the night’s broadcast).

Qualifications:

  • Internship or comparable proven experience working on a news broadcast.
  • Prior work in a newsroom setting is preferred.
  • Able to work under pressure and under strict deadlines.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.

Hiring Salary Range: $50,000.00 - $50,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
