The City of Spokane is recruiting Radio Dispatchers for the Police Department. A Police Radio Dispatcher I performs responsible communications work receiving and transmitting messages and general information over police radio, computer, and telephone.

EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Receives incoming calls and messages by police radio and telephone and/or computer.
  2. Provides requested information; transmits messages or information to mobile units.
  3. Dispatches additional police units on trouble calls as directed.
  4. Relays messages between mobile units, portable units, and other City departments.
  5. May operate an electronic message recorder.
  6. Maintains an operational log.
  7. May monitor other City department radio frequencies.
  8. Prepares necessary reports, records, and files.
  9. Operates a computer terminal.
  10. Assists in maintaining appropriate radio files.
  11. Maintains radio and telephone contact with other agencies and/or public safety support organizations.
  12. Enters, updates, and receives information, emergency, and non-emergency, using the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and mobile data terminals.
  13. Dispatches mobile units in accordance with Police Department policies and directives.
  14. Dispatches emergency personnel in accordance with department policy or as directed.
  15. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of records and reports.
  16. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Typing Speed: Ability to type a minimum of 150 keystrokes (30 words) per minute.
