Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe is very excited to open our new library to the community and we look forward to hearing from candidates who share this enthusiasm.
Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe (JST) Library Assistant provides high quality customer service to library guests that consist of diverse ages, cultures, and backgrounds. This position is responsible for organizing and maintaining the JST Library holdings and automated cataloging and circulation system.
What you'll do
- Welcome and greet library guests, manage counter, phone, and email inquiries.
- Check out library materials to guests, discharge returned materials and register guests for library privileges.
- Assist JST staff, the Tribal community, and guests with obtaining recreational and explorational reading materials, and research and documentation materials for special projects.
- Provide basic computer and internet use instruction and guidance to guests.
- Assist in maintaining physical collections in the library, including ordering and purchasing books, as well as library supplies.
- Maintain and update computerized database as materials are acquired or returned to the collection.
- Catalog and process items as needed.
- Sort, file, retrieve and return library materials and/or documents by alphabetical, numerical or other predetermined methods.
- Shelve returned items and repair/maintain or arrange for the repair of damaged materials.
- Operate office equipment.
- Adhere to all JST policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, and work practices as described in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What we're looking for
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of library methods and procedures.
- Library administrative training or ability to complete upon hire.
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Suites.
- Excellent organization skills, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and strong attention to detail.
- Effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills including effective verbal and written communication.
- Demonstrates cultural competency.
- Demonstrate initiative, work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to successfully pass criminal background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with a variety of book genres is preferred.
- Clerical experience preferred.
- American Indian/Alaska Native preferences apply.
